Stop press!

Stop press! We voted on the horizontal anti-discrimination directive yesterday and it got through with a narrow majority.

It's great that the new legislation will combat discrimination on grounds of disability, religion or belief, age, or sexual orientation. It will apply to social protection and health care, social benefits, education and access to goods and services including housing.

However the majority of Conservative MEPs abstained in yesterday''s vote, while others such as East Midlands MEP Roger Helmer voted against, maintaining their record in refusing to give support to anti-discrimination legislation.

Cameron talks the 'inclusive' talk but his MEPs reveal that the nasty party is alive and voting in Europe!

  1. Well done to all those MEPS who voted to pass this historic bill; this is a step in the right direction to full equality for all citizens. Shame on the Conservatives and those who voted against it or abstained, they revealed their true colours and showed that they are not in touch with our diverse modern society.

  2. Well done to all those who supported the anti-discrimination bill; it is a long over due step in the right direction on the path to full equality for all. Shame on the Conservatives and all who voted against it or abstained, they revealed their true colours and the fact that they are out of touch with and therefore cannot represent our diverse, modern society.

  3. Thanks for an interesting post and such a surprise (not ... ) that the Toreez do not support this. So very pleased that health care is included.

  4. Certainly and historic victory. But still a pity that it was only pushed through by the diligence of the narrow majority of active MEP's. Equality and fairness are things that most believe are core human values rather than political ones.

  5. Congratulations on this.

It does need to be flagged up very heavily who is delivering for the people of this country and where the Tories are.

With Daniel Hannan revealing what the Conservatives really think about the NHS they really are the uncaring party no matter how Cameron seeks to hide it.
